20-year veteran of Silicon Valley to drive evolution of Skytide's XML-based BI solution.

Tom shares the Skytide vision that BI doesn't have to be expensive, complicated, and difficult to implement - and that it should tap into all types of data sources, not just the 20% of company data that most BI platforms can analyze

Skytide, a leading provider of next-generation analytical solutions, today announced that it has appointed Tom Tortolani as Vice President of Product Management. In his new role, Mr. Tortolani will be responsible for identifying market and customer demands, translating them into product requirements, defining product strategy and bringing new products to market.

The Skytide Analytical Platform is the first BI software that analyzes both traditional and non-traditional data sources to uncover the hidden details behind a company's key business metrics. Because Skytide operates on data where it resides - without a data warehouse or any ETL process required - companies are able to analyze massive volumes of data in near real-time, at a fraction of the cost of a traditional BI solution. It is also the first and only solution available today that can understand complex data from virtually any source, including semi-structured data such as log files, XML, and HTML.

"The Skytide Analytical Platform does something extraordinary that no other business intelligence software has been able to do: analyze huge volumes of both relational and non-relational data in near real time," said Tom Tortolani, Vice President of Product Management at Skytide. "I look forward to evolving Skytide's solutions to help companies derive value from previously untapped data resources and gain deeper understanding of what's driving their business."

Prior to joining Skytide, Mr. Tortolani spent nearly 20 years in technology product management at successful Silicon Valley software companies. Mr. Tortolani was among the first ten employees at Hyperion Solutions/Arbor Software. As the main gatekeeper of the company's product vision and roadmaps, he was a key contributor to the creation of the BI and OLAP industry, successfully managing multiple product lines and more than twenty product releases. Previously, Mr. Tortolani drove decision support systems, multi-dimensional data product requirements and analytic software implementations at Pilot Executive Software/Thorn EMI Computer Software. Tom is also the primary inventor on US patent 6,317,750 for advanced multi-dimensional navigational techniques.

In recent years, he was responsible for bringing leading-edge products to market for two startup companies, both of which were acquired: first as Senior Director of Product Management at Provato, and then as VP of Product Management at Aceva Technologies.

"Tom shares the Skytide vision that BI doesn't have to be expensive, complicated, and difficult to implement - and that it should tap into all types of data sources, not just the 20% of company data that most BI platforms can analyze," said Keith Feingold, chief executive officer of Skytide. "We are thrilled to welcome Tom to the team and know that under his leadership, the Skytide Analytical Platform will evolve into an even more high-impact product."
