Unlike other language courses, at the Spanish Institute we don’t focus our curriculum on memorization or reciting phrases. We emphasize practical skills in listening, understanding, and conversing in Spanish. Edina, MN (PRWEB) March 6, 2007
The Twin Cities’ center for Spanish language and culture, the Spanish Institute, celebrates its second anniversary this spring. To mark the occasion, founder Jose Abascal announced that the Spanish Institute will offer 2 scholarships. The awards will cover the cost of tuition for a sequence of four 30 hour courses. This represents a total of 120 hours of course work, in other words a complete year of Spanish instruction. Each award is valued at $1,800.
“It’s been a pleasure to see so much local interest in learning Spanish,” states Abascal, Director of the Spanish Institute. “The scholarships are part of our ongoing work to grow and enhance the Spanish Institute, and to make it a focal point for Spanish language and culture here in the Twin Cities.” Scholarship winners will be selected by random drawing from a pool of qualified candidates. The deadline for submitting an application is April 25, 2007, and the winners will be notified in early May. For more information about how to apply for the scholarships, please contact the Spanish Institute, or come to learn more at our Open House.
The public is invited to an Open House on Monday, March 12 for at the Spanish Institute in Edina; doors will open from 5-7 p.m. The Open House includes school tours, a chance to meet current instructors, and the opportunity to learn more about the immersion method of Spanish language instruction. The public and prospective students are invited to attend. New 10-week classes run March 19-May 26, with many course openings still available. The Spanish Institute offers day and evening sessions for adults of all levels, Beginner through Advanced, as well as private sessions for corporate clients. Spanish Institute specializes in “immersion” learning, where students and teachers interact and speak entirely in Spanish.
Since opening its doors in February 2005, enrollment has continued to grow steadily, with again a high number of students taking classes in the January 2007 session. The substantial growth is maintained consistent with the Spanish Institute’s commitment to small class sizes – in most cases, seven or fewer students per class. “Unlike other language courses, at the Spanish Institute we don’t focus our curriculum on memorization or reciting phrases. We emphasize practical skills in listening, understanding, and conversing in Spanish. Our students love the relaxed, interactive learning environment where everyone – even beginners at their level– can be comfortable speaking the language,” explains Abascal.
