Major Greek Culinary Event Features Cookbook Author Nikos Psilakis Speaking on "The Cretan Diet: Its Culture and Benefits"

An extravaganza of authentic Cretan Foods and Wine will be held March 18th at Drexel University in Philadelphia and March 20th at the South Shore Country Club in Staten Island. Renowned cookbook author Nikos Psilakis and Chef Theodoro Kalathakis will highlight the culture and traditions of traditional Cretan cooking.

(PRWEB) March 9, 2007 -- The Cretan Diet-Its Culture and Benefits has been organized by the PanCretan Association of America as part of its continuing dedication to promoting the culture and traditions of Crete, Greece. Mr. Nikos Psilakis, is an award winning author, journalist and researcher. Mr. Psilakis, along with his wife, Maria Psilakis have written a number of significant books. Their cookbooks include Cretan Traditional Cooking (1995); The Olive Culture, Olive Oil (1999); The Greeks' Bread and Sweets (2002); and Herbs in Cooking (2003). The first part of the evenings' event will be a lecture by Mr. Psilakis on the history and healthy traditions of the diet of Crete.

Mr. Theodoro Kalathakis, a renowned master chef from Crete will prepare an array of authentic traditional Cretan recipes. It will be a unique opportunity to experience first hand the healthy and delicious diet of Crete. Studies have shown it to be one of the healthiest versions of the Mediterranean diet. In fact, Crete has the lowest rate of cardiovascular disease and cancer in the world.

The event will take place on March 18th at 7 p.m. at Drexel University in Philadelphia and at 7 p.m. on March 20th at the South Shore Country Club in Staten Island. The events are sponsored by the PanCretan Association of America, Drexel University, South Shore Country Club, The Prefecture of Heraklion-Crete, Nostos Winery, Boutari Winery, Demeter's Pantry & Taste of Crete and KPHTH Magazine.
