We have cared for pets in all but one of the sits - and that one had exotic orchards to care for. It seems we grow very fond of all the pets we have cared for which include two totally indoor cats, dogs, horses, fish and turtles. It does not worry us to have animals to care for or to do any gardening

House sitting came to the rescue of Alan and Margaret Eaton when an ailing parent's unexpected operation forced them to travel to Cairns from their home on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. With the encouragement from their youngest daughter, this retired couple began searching the Internet for house sitting opportunities. This is when they found Ian White at housecarers.com House Sitting Directory
The Eaton's first unexpected adventure into house sitting took them to the beautiful rainforest outside of Cairns for an extended four month stay. The Eaton's were so pleased with their house sitting experience they have continued to offer their services to other home owners.
When asked what has been their most memorable house sit, Margaret Eaton states, "Over the past three years we have traveled up and down the Queensland coast, Tasmania and to Victoria. In Victoria we house sat a Bed and Breakfast. It was a truly wonderful experience with the owners not only trusting us with their home but their business as well. We also have sat at a property on the beautiful Atherton Tablelands. This home was a magnificent newly constructed pole home. The owners had only been in it for a very short time before they left for an overseas assignment - imagine the trust to allow perfect strangers to care for your prized possession!"
When the Eaton's were asked how they spend their days when they are house sitting it is easy to see why this retired couple love house sitting so much. "We have cared for pets in all but one of the sits - and that one had exotic orchards to care for. It seems we grow very fond of all the pets we have cared for which include two totally indoor cats, dogs, horses, fish and turtles. It does not worry us to have animals to care for or to do any gardening," she said.
The Eaton's claim that the house sits keep them young and active - with each house sit bringing a new adventure into their lives. "I have learnt that I am more adaptable then I thought when it comes to the kitchen and Alan's learning experience would involve the machinery and coping with broken down motors. In North Queensland we had the threat of a cyclone. In Victoria at the Bed and Breakfast we were threatened with the terrible bush fires which went through the King Lake area. Every house sit has been unique with its own learning experiences and, of course, the responsibility of caring for the owner's property and pets which is the reason we are there," she said.
When asked if they would recommend house sitting and housecarers.com to other retirees the Eaton's were quick with their response. "We would have no hesitation in recommending house sitting to any retirees. In fact, we have given out the address of HouseCarers to so many people, not only family and friends but to people who might just start up a conversation. Actually one of our sons says when he retires he is going to do what we are doing. Our friends tell me they envy us for the lifestyle we lead - some might eventually follow us. We are and have been extremely happy with Ian White and HouseCarers. We have found them very professional," she said.
