Next Generation of Electronic Brief has Arrived, Says eTrial President

The electronic brief was due for a modern makeover, and a Denver-based company called eTrial Communications has met the challenge. Its new software package called Brief-Lynx provides pinpoint hyperlinks and tools for fast and easy production at a fraction of the cost.

Denver (PRWEB) March 14, 2007 -- The short history of electronic briefs in the legal industry has turned another chapter, this time with an emphasis on pinpoint hyperlinks.

eTrial Communications President David Vanderport has written a revealing paper about the issues and evolution of the e-brief, from the simple Microsoft Word document first filed in 1997 to the pinpoint hyperlink. The paper, entitled "Electronic Law Briefs - High Tech to the Rescue," is now available for download at www.brief-lynx.com.

The paper examines the advantages of using e-briefs and the disadvantages of the current service models in the marketplace.
"While benefits are numerous, current tools are scarce - essentially limited to Microsoft Word, WordPerfect and Adobe Acrobat," writes Vanderport.

The next generation of e-brief tools will allow the user to create their own brief on a "just-in-time" basis, with pinpoint hyperlinks. e-Trial Communications has developed a new class of products for its electronic brief creation software to help users build their own briefs in a standard format accepted by the courts and The American Bar Association with more advanced tools for easy output.

"The pinpoint brief takes the hyperlinked brief to the page and line that allows the reader to go to the exact reference without searching the document," writes Vanderport. "But the pinpoint hyperlinked brief has only now become relatively simple to use and available to law firms at a reasonable price."

Currently, vendors offer expensive, complex and time-consuming services that create hyperlinked briefs lacking the precision that courts are beginning to demand. Those outdated e-briefs typically require outsourcing services with a turnaround time of days or even weeks.
The newest advancement allows in-house creation of e-briefs, with features that address issues of price, flexibility, readability and turnaround time.
