Art franchise owners collaborate with local schools to help kids discover creativity.

If your child is learning how to paint, sculpt or sketch, she may be gaining brain power and boosting her confidence in addition to having fun. As the nation celebrates National Youth Art Month, a national art franchise is trying to offer creative enrichment opportunities and their benefits to as many kids as possible.

"Whether it's in or after school, every child should experience art or other creative outlets because they are so beneficial to a child's intellectual, personal and social development," says Shell Herman, CEO and co-founder of KidzArt. "Through grants and scholarships, we try to give as many children as possible, a creative channel through art enrichment classes."

Of the 62 KidzArt franchises nationwide, over 30% of their students are offered art classes which are paid for by grants and scholarships. The organization is trying to reach more kids through grants by obtaining donations from local businesses and civic organizations to fund classes.

"Our mission is to foster creativity in children who are the innovators of our future," says Herman. "Until art is considered an academic subject that's as important as any other in the development of a child, we'll be trying to find ways to expose all children to the benefits of creative thinking."

KidzArt, a visual arts enrichment franchise company for kids of all ages, receives recommendations from local principals and teachers regarding student candidates for grants or scholarships.

"During Youth Art Month we want to help even more children discover their artistic and creative abilities and realize the confidence-boosting benefits that come with it," says Herman.
