John Eaves launches "Speakers of the House"
John Eaves' new book, "Speakers of the House," is his labor of love for Morehouse College. Read about the extraordinary journeys of life of 30 Morehouse alumni that are truly inspirational. Book signing March 20, 2007 at Manuel's Tavern.
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 16, 2007 -- A minister, teacher, family man and the chairman of the Fulton County Commission, John Eaves has added "author" to his resume. Eaves' new book, "Speakers of the House," is his labor of love for Morehouse College -- America's premier historically black male college.
A 1984 graduate of Morehouse, Eaves has identified 30 select Morehouse men to profile and reflect on their journey to manhood. The men are engaged in all walks of life.
Some, like Spike Lee and Edwin Moses, are known far and wide for the extraordinary careers in entertainment and sports. Some are Republicans (Herman Cain, former CEO of Godfather's Pizza), while others are Democrats (Lamar Willis and Caesar Mitchell, members of the Atlanta City Council). Among the 30 -- U.S. District Court Judge Horace Ward, former Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher, and former Health and Human Services Secretary Louis Sullivan.
In their own words, the 30 alumni tell their personal stories about the impact Morehouse had on their development as men and leaders. In doing so they speak for thousands of other graduates of the college whose lives also have been enhanced by the Morehouse experience.
Indeed, this book could not have been written in a more timely fashion -- too often we find negative depictions of black men in America, trapped in drug/gang culture and in prison. In stark contrast, the stories these Morehouse men tell about their lives, their successes and the factors that contributed to their being able to achieve their goals are truly inspirational.
To celebrate the publication, John Eaves will sign copies of "Speakers of the House" and discuss his inspiration in writing the book, on Tuesday night, March 20, 2007 at Manuel's Tavern, 602 N. Highland Ave., Atlanta, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. The event is open to the media.
