California songwriter David Shaw is holding a fundraiser for the upcoming March on the Pentagon - on the internet. He's donating a hefty portion of each download fee from his new anti-war protest song, 'Didn't Sign Up For This" to the event's sponsoring organization, the A.N.S.W.E.R coalition. The song is available at http://www.DidntSignUp.com.
"It's my personal way of helping a cause I strongly believe in, while sending a strong, emotional anti-war message through my music," says Shaw.
The March takes place on March 17, 2007. A.N.S.W.E.R has the support of hundreds of pro-peace groups from around the nation that are organizing transportation to the event for the tens of thousands expected to attend. Supporters include former attorney general, Ramsey Clark, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, author Alice Walker and many other notables.
Shaw's rock genre song about expresses the anger, frustration and shock felt by soldiers in the field and their countryman at home.
"Didn't Sign Up For This is a tribute to those who have suffered the indignity of being lied to by their President and his Cabinet," says Shaw. "It's a salute to the men and women who signed up to protect this country from harm and believed they were fighting for right, not wrong".
The anthem like chorus sings:
Didn't sign up for this
Thought I'd be protecting my country from harm
Didn't sign up for this
Thought I'd be fighting for right not wrong
The download price for the song is $1.29, slightly higher than the usual .99 cents. Shaw explained that the higher price allows him to donate more per download. "The beauty of music is that it's a gift that keeps on giving," Shaw added.
