"We take great pleasure in welcoming this newest class of nursing students who have decided to further their education through Florida Hospital College's Bachelor of Science in Nursing program," said Dr. Nancy Haugen, Ph.D. R.N., Professor and Chair, Department of Nursing. "Our talented faculty and staff will make sure they receive the highest quality education to prepare for the challenges of their demanding careers. In the process they will be doing a great service to the entire health profession by helping fulfill a pressing need for more baccalaureate-level educated nurses."

Students entering Florida Hospital College's online Bachelor's in Nursing program in the spring 2007 term represent 15 states. Students come from as far away as California and as close as Florida. Wherever they come from, they are united in a common purpose to earn a sought-after bachelor's degree in nursing and gain the knowledge and professional recognition necessary to remain competitive in this challenging field.

Fran Oppedisano of Davie, Florida, is a new student in the program this term. Ms. Oppedisano has been in the field of nursing for 34 years. She is currently a school nurse at Miami Country Day where she has worked since 2004. Before her current job, she had worked in a variety of positions in the field including: a hospital setting, pediatrics, 10 years in an emergency room, and 11 years in homecare.

Ms. Oppedisano chose to set aside her own dreams of returning to school to focus on her family: "I had always thought that I would resume my education. Marriage, kids, their college and wedding expenses all put my returning to school on the back burner," she said. "Working in an environment where everyone is focused on learning new techniques and furthering their own education made me remember my own dreams of returning to school."
