The Maine Golf and Tennis Academy has been selected by Sports Illustrated KIDS, as the best golf camp and separately the best tennis camp in America. The popular publication has picked the best in each of 13 different sports. Maine Golf and Tennis Academy is the only camp to be selected twice, once for golf and then again for tennis. The golf camp and the tennis camp program reflects a unique, comprehensive four-week curriculum.

"We offer a more complete program than all of the 1 week dormitory camps," stated Director of Golf PGA Class A Professional Tom Leimberger. The camp has its own exclusive workbook, the "What Are You Working On" workbook (WAYWO Book). This developmental program and lesson regime is designed by MGTA to teach the four fundamentals of sports training and development: the technical, tactical, physical and psychological components designed to produce well-balanced and accomplished junior golf and tennis athletes.

Established in 1907, the camp is celebrating another milestone , its 100th year. Operated for many years as a traditional camp on beautiful lake Salmon, in 1997 the camp was transformed into a specialty sports camp. Children ages 8 – 17 years of age now come from all over the world to participate in this high tech camp, which now specializes in top golf school and top tennis school instructors and programs. Young people come from all over the world. Families from all 50 states and over 40 countries have sent their young hopeful junior golfers and tennis players to learn from the best.

"We are very excited about being recognized as #1 by Sports Illustrated KIDS. My family has been in the camp business for four generations and it is truly gratifying to be honored this way," says Joel Lavenson, founder and director of the Maine Golf and Tennis Academy.

The unique facility, on the grounds of a premier summer camp, has been retooled to be the state of the art training center for golf and tennis. It has its own 6 tournament quality holes, a covered 300 yd. driving range, club making building, video analysis building, pro shop, theater, 8 bunkers, a putting green and 20,000 sq. feet of USGA quality greens, red clay courts, hard courts and two locations for indoor court play nearby. All this on the shores of crystal, clear Lake Salmon at the site of a traditional summer camp once called Kennebec Camps.

The PGA Class A Professionals and USPTA Coaches have been the directors of instruction. They have included very best in the golf industry from backgrounds such as Disney, Leadbetter, Jacobs, Palmer, Flick, McClean, Harmon, Saddlebrook, Bollettieri, Hoppman and other potentates in the golf and tennis instruction world.

The kids get the best of both worlds since they also enjoy the benefits of being in a wholesome, traditional summer camp environment on a crystal clear lake in picturesque Maine. Waterskiing, sailing, white water rafting, basketball, yoga, theater, sports broadcasting and ice hockey are just few of the additional activities available at this exclusive specialty camp.
