Phoenix Ad Agency Off Madison Ave's Roger Hurni Honored as 'Ad Person of the Year'

Agency co-founder joins partner as a recipient of illustrious industry award.

Roger Hurni, co-founder and executive creative director of Phoenix advertising agency, Off Madison Ave, a full-service collaborative marketing communications firm, received the 2007 J. Terry Groener Ad Person of the Year award at the 22nd annual Phoenix Addy Awards on Saturday evening at the Heard Museum. Presented by Ad 2 Phoenix, the award recognizes leaders who have made make great contributions to the advertising, marketing and communications industry and who actively participate in community service.

"Roger is always quick to share his insight and experiences to help advance the profession and the professional development of others," said David Anderson, Off Madison Ave president and managing partner, and the 2002 winner of the Ad Person of the Year award. "He is certainly deserving of this honor, and it is rewarding to see him recognized by his peers and those he has mentored over the years."

Throughout his 20-plus year career, Hurni has worked on many major local, regional and national accounts, and his creative work has been recognized by a variety of industry awards. He regularly mentors his staff and speaks to students interested in pursuing a career in advertising and marketing, and he is frequently selected to judge awards shows around the country. Moreover, his expertise regarding advertising trends and campaigns has been featured in industry and local media outlets, and he has served as a guest panelist at workplace and marketing-oriented conferences.

Hurni's creative leadership and emphasis on collaboration among Off Madison Ave's various disciplines have resulted in numerous accolades for the firm including being named one of the best places to work in Arizona. In addition to the leadership he brings to the agency and its clients, he exhibits a contagious enthusiasm for philanthropic projects by contributing professional services to local non-profit organizations like Libraries for Literacy, Southwest Human Development, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Last summer, Hurni directed the firm's pro bono marketing and public relations contributions to the Uhuru Ascent, a nonprofit organization that creates outdoor adventures for disabled veterans. Hurni joined his friend Darol Kubacz, the organization's founder, and the expedition team in climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise awareness of the need for more opportunities for disabled veterans to experience adventure activities.
