On the Second Anniversary of John DeLorean's Passing, the Last DeLorean Built is Offered for Sale
The last DeLorean built by DeLorean Motor Company has come on to the market for this first time in more than twenty years. DeLorean Motor Company (Texas) is pleased to offer this very collectible car, suitable for Concours, Museum or a private collection.
Houston, TX (PRWEB) March 21, 2007 -- In December of 1982, the DeLorean Motor Company had filed for bankruptcy, and the final stainless steel gullwing cars to be assembled at the state-of-the art factory near Belfast, Northern Ireland were inching their way to completion.
On Christmas Eve, the final car of some 9,200 built rolled out of the factory and onto a ship bound for the United States. For John DeLorean, awaiting trial in Los Angeles on charges that he conspired to distribute cocaine to save his faltering company, it was yet another blow from which he would never recover.
That final car, bearing the serial number 20104, was to find a home with a couple in Austin, Texas in October of 1985. Delivered to the buyers by an executive of the company that acquired all the remaining unsold DeLoreans, it was occasionally used for weekend drives for the next twenty years. Few people understood the significance of the personalized plate "FINAL 1", and in the past 24 years since the car first rolled out of the factory, the car has covered less than 3,900 miles.
John DeLorean, though acquitted on all charges related to his arrest and the downfall of the company, never got a second chance to re-build his car company and create a new DeLorean car. For those who missed the opportunity in 1985 to buy the last DeLorean car ever built, their second chance is now.
"The first production DeLorean car built resides in a museum in Cleveland, Ohio, and it's just as likely that this car, the final production DeLorean built, will someday reside in a museum or private collection as well," commented Stephen Wynne, President of DMC (Texas), where this last DeLorean is now being offered for sale.
After the closure of the factory in 1982, the remaining parts were sold off to a liquidator, who eventually sold out to a Texas firm now known as DeLorean Motor Company (Texas). The company sells parts and accessories, does service and restoration and sells complete cars, as well. In addition this last DeLorean built, DeLorean Motor Company and its dealers around the world have an assortment of DeLorean cars available for purchase.
