Insurer Gives Air Miles Back for Cancelled Flights

A low-cost travel insurer has highlighted the lack of coverage offered by most of its competitors for air mile and frequent flyer customers.

(PRWEB) March 22, 2007 -- Most insurers offer varying levels of cover for unforeseen flight cancellations. Travel Insurance Web is unique -- among low cost insurers -- in extending this benefit to customers who have redeemed air miles, frequent flyer points or other redeemable vouchers for their flights. In those cases, if their flights are cancelled then customers will have their air miles replaced, or will be reimbursed for the cost of the flight, under the terms of this particular service.

For the millions of people who take advantage of frequent flyers schemes in the UK, this is a benefit worth noting among the list of benefits often advertised. According to Stuart Evans, General Manager at Global loyalty experts at ICLP, an estimated 1.5m trips/flights are redeemed using mileage schemes and redeemable vouchers every year in the UK alone.

Whilst a few other travel insurance companies do themselves offer air mile coverage, it's either not readily apparent from their literature, or there is a lack of clarity in this area for customers.

Rob Thomas, Marketing Manager, Travel Insurance Web: "Many people use frequent flyer points for their holidays. That is why we are happy to be up front and crystal clear on our policy of giving customers their air miles back when they face cancelled flights. We believe we're the only providers, certainly of low-cost travel cover, that offer this valuable benefit, as standard. It's important, we feel, for individuals to be well informed on this issue before they buy their travel insurance."
