Mountain State University (MSU) offers two online degrees that go beyond facts and figures to enable students to gain a strong set of leadership skills. The online Master of Science in Strategic Leadership (M.S.S.L.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Organizational Leadership provide invaluable instruction to help students envision goals, build teams and lead those teams to achieve objectives across any and all disciplines.
"While many management training and leadership degrees prepare students to work on the tactical level with classes geared toward day-to-day management, at Mountain State we like to look at the bigger picture," said William White, Ed.D., dean of MSU's School of Leadership and Professional Development. "These degrees focus on the many facets of leadership, from forming teams to managing teams across multiple successful projects that can directly affect the performance of the organization. Strong leadership is a vital component of success in today's complex organizational and global environments."
MSU's Master's in Strategic Leadership program helps students attain the skills and knowledge to work more effectively with people, organizational systems, and information--critical factors in any company's success. The M.S.S.L. program helps students develop a "leadership skill set." Exposure to a wide variety of real-world, real-time organizational problems enables students to develop strategies for problem solving as well as implementing and executing solutions to facilitate and manage change in an organization.
Graduates of the program are already seeing the importance of the degree: "I was hired as the manager of biomedical engineering for the largest health care system, and second largest employer, in Houston. It is a position I would not have landed without my M.S.S.L. degree. In fact, my director has already said he wants to learn what I have to offer, drawing from my strategic leadership education," said recent graduate Donald G. Tucker of Missouri City, Texas.
Master of Science in Strategic Leadership graduates possess dexterity in creative problem solving, sound principles of quality management, techniques for the effective use of teams, and strategic thinking to help organizations maintain a competitive advantage.
The curriculum in organizational leadership is the major component of a broad undergraduate degree that provides students with a background in, and an understanding of, the nature and dynamics of any organization. Learning experiences are focused on the development of skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making.
