The Californian school district overhauls its network infrastructure and deploys VoIP Telephony and wireless connectivity across all of its school sites.

VIP Tone today announced the award of a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract for VIP PBX™ services with Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) in California. As an integral part of the HUSD e-District Project, VIP Tone is upgrading HUSD's district wide network infrastructure, deploying a wireless mesh network to the district's 36 school locations, installing over 2,000 IP phones, and gradually rolling out the HUSD e-District Portal to all of the District's stakeholders, including staff, students and parents.

"We applaud HUSD's leadership for their strategic investment in the future of the District by investing in its IT infrastructure today," said Robert Iskander, VIP Tone's founder and CEO, "We're pleased that they have chosen us as a partner and are confident that our solution will provide them with significant productivity gains and impressive cost savings."

A national showcase for technology in K-12 education, the HUSD e-District Portal was initially unveiled in March of 2006 by the District's visionary Chief Technology Officer, Patrick Simon. e-District is powered by a wireless Nortel network infrastructure, an IP messaging and telephony platform from 3COM, and an "On-Demand" e-District Portal, powered by VIP Tone's EduTone Xchange™, that escalates and facilitates student learning and assessment, professional development and document management. The entire Hayward student community will have free access to the e-District Portal through the District's free citywide wireless network.

"e-District will provide our students and teachers with the best educational tools possible while improving communications within the community," said Patrick J. Simon, Chief Technology Officer, HUSD. "Upgrading the network infrastructure at every district location has enabled us to embrace new ways of teaching and communicating that weren't possible before. e-District is possible only because of a true private-public partnership between the Hayward Unified School District, its technology suppliers, and the Hayward Community."

"The use of VoIP enables substantial telecom cost savings, freeing up funds that may be reinvested in student programs," said Joseph Zanini, Director Maintenance and Operations, HUSD. "With VIP PBX we will improve communications and productivity for district employees while improving our communications with the rest of the community as well."
