Escape Artist Curtis Eugene Lovell II Weighs on Houdini's Deathbed Promise

At his death in 1926, Houdini promised that he would return from the grave. Curtis Eugene Lovell II said today he is excited that Houdini's great-nephew wants to exhume Houdini's body to determine if enemies - self-proclaimed psychics - poisoned him for debunking their bogus claims of contact with the dead. But Lovell believes this might be a final, well-planned PR stunt by Houdini, who was considered to be a master showman.

Los Angeles (PRWEB) March 26, 2007 -- At his death in 1926, Houdini promised that he would return from the grave.

"His legend made me believe in magic and led to my interest in escapes, as well as that of countless other magicians and magic lovers. I would love to see Houdini make his grand reappearance in our world," Lovell said. He cautioned, "This man was amazing - he could very well have planned the perfect PR stunt that has lasted for over 80 years." Lovell thinks it is possible that Houdini could have created a blueprint for this stunt, as follows:

1. Create a master plan with his wife for actions after his death
2. Promise he will return from the grave
3. Commit his wife to keeping the rumors alive in the media
4. Avoid an autopsy
5. Plant the idea that he could have been poisoned
6. Pass along a family secret - a plan to have his body exhumed many years later
7. 80-plus years later, direct a relative to hold a press conference about exhuming his body.

Although Lovell is quick to say that this is just a theory, he says any magician would love to have Houdini's press agent, no matter the outcome of the autopsy.

Lovell is available to comment on a magician's/escape artist's perspective on this GREAT ESCAPE by the one and only Houdini.

A little more about Lovell:
Curtis Eugene Lovell II, is an international escape artist and illusionist, who has cut Paris Hilton in half for her television show the Simple Life and publicly challenged David Blaine and noted psychic John Edward to magic duels. He most recently appeared on the USA network Road Characters where he presented his cube of death - an effect similar to the feat Houdini once performed.
