The concept of Cake Mania is simple, but it's also challenging

Yahoo Games ( has announced the winner of their 2006 Casual Game of the Year - Cake Mania. Developed by Sandlot Games (, Yahoo says Cake Mania, "Is as addictive as chocolate." According to reports, over 35 million people have downloaded Cake Mania, making it one of the most popular casual games in history.

Casual games today are defined as games that are small enough to download, easy to play, require no manual, and can be played for five minutes or five hours but provide entertainment at both extremes. In Cake Mania, Jill, a young entrepreneur, works to raise enough money to reopen her grandparents' bakery. To achieve this, she makes cakes to-order in a variety of shapes, colors, sizes and icings. Mistakes eat into earnings. Profits are used to add ovens, frosting machines, and even televisions to appease customers waiting in line.

Yahoo's Casual Game of the Year award is the second major award for Cake Mania. i-Parenting (, a publishing and product evaluation company, awarded Cake Mania its i-Parenting Media Award last year. Already available on mobile phones, Cake Mania is scheduled for release this quarter on the Nintendo DS.
