Southern Explorations has added four new trips to its Peru vacation offerings, the Seattle-based tour operator announced today. According to company president, Justin Laycob, "These new itineraries will give adventure travelers more options for seeing Peru's top attractions in one exciting trip."

All four itineraries pair Peru's most famous destination, the legendary Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, with Colca Canyon, a marvel that few have heard of, much less visited. A canyon twice as deep as the Grand Canyon, Colca is a prime location for observing the dramatic Andean condor, an endangered species difficult to spot in most places. The trips also visit nearby Arequipa, known as the "white city" because many of its colonial buildings are constructed of white volcanic rock.

The new trips range from 10 to 18 days and include some of Peru's other major sights such as the world's highest navigable lake, Titicaca, the Amazon rainforest, the Inca Trail, the Sacred Valley and the colonial city of Cusco. "We recognize that many people visiting Peru are likely to do so only once. The proximity of Peru's cultural and natural wonders makes it possible to experience many top sights in one vacation without making an inordinately long trip," Laycob added.

Two of the new trips are filled with hiking in unique landscapes that will be especially appealing to trekkers. The 15-day "Best of Peru" trip includes hikes in Colca Canyon and the ultimate Peru hike along the renowned Inca Trail to reach Machu Pichu as well as visiting the Amazon, Lake Titicaca, Arequipa, Cusco and the Sacred Valley. The slightly shorter "Inca Trail and Colca Canyon" tour visits the same destinations excluding Lake Titicaca and the Amazon.

Southern Explorations' other two new trips are less strenuous. The 10-day "Machu Picchu and Colca Canyon" tour includes visits to Arequipa, Lake Titicaca and the Sacred Valley, reaching Machu Picchu via train and bus. The longest of the new trips is "Adventure Peru" which wraps all of the top sights into one 18-day Peru tour, spends time in the Amazon, Lake Titicaca, Colca Canyon and Arequipa, plus several days exploring Inca sites in and around Cusco and the Sacred Valley topped off by Machu Picchu.

The four new trips bring to 23 the total number of different Peru adventure trips that Southern Explorations offers. The company also arranges many half-day, full-day and multi-day Peru tour extensions. This allows travelers to customize their vacations by adding side trips to such sights as the mysterious Nazca lines, the ancient animal and geometric designs observable only by air or an exotic Amazon eco-lodge adventure. Southern Explorations arranges both fixed-itinerary trips with set-departures as well as private departures.
