How to Avoid Next Week's Postal Increases

L-Mail.com outlines five easy options to reduce the impact of postal increases due 2 April 2007.

(PRWEB) March 30, 2007 -- Peter Harris, mail expert at online letter writing service L-Mail. com, comments: "Royal Mail will be increasing First Class postage by 2p to 34p, Second Class by 1p to 24p and a three page International letter by 6p to 78p, but consumers and businesses still have opportunities to cut the costs associated with keeping in touch."

Harris outlines his favourite options below:

1. Pre-purchase Stamps.
Stamps labelled 1st and 2nd class, rather than a price can be purchased in advance. Buy as many as you feel is appropriate prior to the postal rise on 2 April. Stamp pre-purchase could save around 5% of your postage costs.

2. Send an L-Mail.
Sending a real letter via a PC can be cheaper than sending a letter via the post. For example, a three page L-Mail to the USA can be sent for £0.57 a saving of 25% compared to the new air mail price of £0.76. L-Mail prices include the paper, envelope, stamp and ink. L-Mail print their letters from 23 locations around the world. Full details are published at www.l-mail.com and greater discounts apply for business users.

3. Use E-Mail.
The cost of sending an email is small, but not quite free as it is included in the fees charged by your Internet Service Provider. With over two thirds of email being classed as spam, it is becoming increasingly difficult to get legitimate mail to the correct recipient.

4. Make a phone call - VoIP
Phone packages and the advent of VoIP has resulted in a huge fall in the cost of both domestic and International calling prices. With VoIP providers charging just a couple of pennies per minute to some destinations you could natter away for around 11 minutes for the cost of a second class stamp.

5. Send a fax
The old fashioned fax still represents an affordable way to get a message from A to B. Whilst the cost of purchasing a fax machine may prohibit this service, online fax services enable a fax to be sent for a variety of prices. Moneybookers.com offer a fax service at EUR0.50 per page, a reasonable saving for a one page letter when compared to international post.

Harris continues: "Businesses may be used to buying stamps or credits for franking machines but the L-Mail option is looking increasingly competitive. Not only does L-Mail provide the stamp, but is also printing and posting letters on behalf of its growing list of clients. L-Mail.com is an online post office that accepts letters in an electronic format from its clients, either through its web site or via its automated integration account (an API for the more computer literate). The innovative L-Mail service then prints and posts the letters on behalf of its clients from 23 global locations.

The convenience of outsourcing mail handling is only part of the attraction of L-Mail according to Harris, the inventor of the service. "Where a post office will charge £0.78 for an airmail stamp to Australia, L-Mail will process a 4 page letter for a charge from £0.70 including all the stationery, postage and dispatch of the letter from within Australia. The end result is fast delivery and financial savings". The speed of delivery and automated nature of the L-Mail service remains very appealing to the L-Mail client base. "Our clients are giving us great feedback on our service. Many are appreciative of removing the mailing chore so they can focus on their core business."

When asked if the growth of email is seen as a threat to L-Mail, Harris actually sees it as an opportunity. "Email bounces back, and with ever increasingly keen spam filters, the humble letter is often a safe alternative when it comes to needing to get in touch with a client."

Businesses are putting L-Mail to a variety of uses. Some see saving money a good enough reason to send letter via L-Mail, whilst others are integrating their online systems with the L-Mail platform to automatically generate correspondence. Sending address verification and account activation codes to clients is a common use for L-Mail and something the service does faster, and often cheaper, than traditional postal services and the Braille Translation service is also growing in popularity.
