Veteran Pens Stunning Novel of Civil War

Civil War Expert John Ferry's astonishing novel, Servants of the Wind, may be the North's answer to Gone with the Wind.

Farmington Township, PA (PRWEB) March 28, 2007 -- Servants of the Wind by Civil War historian John Ferry stitches together a rich tapestry of diaries, letters, reminiscences and histories to tell the story of American heroes fighting to save a nation torn by civil war.

The Civil War was one of the bloodiest wars ever fought--and it was fought on American soil. Most people know the story from the viewpoint of the South, a world filled with plantations, slavery and simpering Southern belles, but in this gripping novel, author and Army veteran John Ferry gives a Northerner's-eye view of the "late unpleasantness" as he tells the story of Union soldier James Miller and his wife Susan.

Based on reports, newspaper articles and the official history of a fighting regiment, Servants of the Wind is narrated by a fictional veteran who fought in many of the major battles of the Civil War. This book is not about heroes. It is about average people called upon to do remarkable things, made heroic by the measure of their valor, sacrifice and toil. Gorgeously written, Servants of the Wind sends a message across the decades, reminding us that a house divided cannot stand as we face the dangers of our time.

"An engaging tale brimming with uncertainty, humor and human connections that comprise the very best to be found in the written word. This is not only a story of war, but a story of families, of friendships forged and of a small community's tensions and the eventual impact upon the nation's future."

- Abigail Skinner, Warren County Historical Society
