Kenneth L. Khachigian, White House aide to three U.S. Presidents, Special Consultant to the President under Ronald Reagan and Senior Adviser to California Governors George Deukmejian and Pete Wilson, has joined the California law firm of Hatch & Parent as Senior Partner.
Khachigian began practicing public, government and administrative law in 1979 representing state, national and multinational businesses -- including more than a dozen Fortune 500 companies -- in diverse industries including energy exploration and development, paint manufacturing, telecommunications, public utilities, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, food sales and packaging, data processing, insulation manufacturing and gaming.
Khachigian is widely regarded throughout California and nationally for providing counseling in government affairs, crisis management and strategic problem-solving -- navigating clients across the terrain where legal, governmental and public issues intersect. In this role, Khachigian has led successful negotiations of major litigations and disputes for private and public agency clients.
"Ken's vast experience in government affairs, and in administrative and environmental law will be a tremendous asset to our clients," says Rob Saperstein, Hatch & Parent managing partner. "He has served at the highest levels of government from California to the White House."
In 1980, President Reagan commissioned Khachigian as Special Consultant to the President and a senior aide in his White House staff. Khachigian served President Reagan as Chief Speechwriter and collaborated with him on many of his most prominent public addresses. He traveled aboard Air Force One as Director of Issues and Research, senior adviser and speechwriter to President Reagan throughout his 1984 re-election effort and served in the same senior advisory role in 1988 for the successful Bush/Quayle ticket. During two gubernatorial races in California, Khachigian acted as consultant and principal strategist for Governor George Deukmejian and also counseled Pete Wilson in his winning U.S. Senate and gubernatorial campaigns.
Khachigian served as National Senior Adviser and California campaign director for Republican Presidential nominee, Robert Dole, and in 1998, successfully guided the statewide retention election of California Supreme Court Justice Ming Chin. In 2000, Khachigian was National Senior Adviser to Senator John McCain and accompanied him through the presidential primaries and subsequently counseled the Bush-Cheney campaign.
Currently, Khachigian is a member of the Board of Directors of the California Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Directors of the California Council for Environmental and Economic Balance, the Board of the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace Foundation and a Trustee of the UCSB Foundation.
He is an honors graduate in political science from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Columbia University in New York.
