Washington Adventist Hospital Hosts Innovations 2007 -- Friday, April 13, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fourth annual cardiac and vascular symposium to feature national experts in the field of Cardiac and Vascular Diseases.

Adelphi, MD (PRWEB) March 30, 2007 -- Innovations 2007, an all-day cardiac and vascular symposium hosted by Washington Adventist Hospital located in Takoma Park, Md., will feature national experts in interventional cardiology, vascular medicine, stroke prevention and adult congenital heart disease to discuss topics such as the future of drug-eluting stents, the recent data presented at the American College of Cardiology (ACC) meeting, and heart valve therapies.

A highlight of the symposium will include a discussion on patient education for the controversial topic of drug eluting stents (DES)--devices that some physicians believe have enormous benefits for patients, while others question their efficacy and safety. Ultimately, patients must make crucial decisions about their care with limited information available to them. How do physicians convey the clinical data? Given the recent COURAGE trial results presented at the ACC, should fewer patients undergo invasive treatments?

Innovations 2007 will feature presentations from a range of local and national experts, including: Symposium Director Dr. Mark Turco, FACC, FSCAI, Director of the Center for Cardiac and Vascular Research at Washington Adventist Hospital; Dr. Martin B. Leon, Professor of Medicine at New York Presbyterian Columbia University Medial Center, New York; and Dr. Mel Scheinman, Professor of Medicine Emeritus at the University of California.

Additional topics to be discussed include:
- Sudden Death Prevention: Who should get a device and what type?
- Strategies for AMI Management: Are shorter door to balloon times the next core performance measure for hospitals?
- Congenital Heart Disease: How should individuals with congenital heart disease be cared for now that they are living well into adulthood?
- Lower Extremity Peripheral Arterial Intervention: Does new technology hold the promise of reducing the number of amputee procedures performed for this disease?
- On the Horizon: What trials are underway for next generation stents?
- Additionally four live cases will be transmitted live from Washington Adventist Hospital.

Innovations 2007 will be held Friday, April 13 from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. with registration and continental breakfast starting at 7 a.m. Location is the University of Maryland Inn and Conference Center at 3501 University Blvd E, Adelphi, Md., 20783.

Members of the media are invited to attend all or part of the day's events. Presenting experts will be available for two media question and answer sessions: 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The transmitted live case procedures will be performed throughout the day. Patient interviews are available per request.

A detailed agenda and complete listing of attending experts are available on the Web at http://www.innovations2007.com/2007/. Bios and curricula vitae (CVs) of panelists are also available upon request.
