"Self-Centered Science" Announced at Evolution Conference

New publisher celebrates launch of first regional branch of HBES (Human Behavior and Evolution Society) with two books promoting "a self-centered science of evolution."

New Paltz, NY (PRWEB) April 9, 2007 -- A publisher of books on evolution will celebrate the launch of NEEPS (NorthEastern Evolutionary Psychology Society) by presenting two new books promoting "a self-centered science of evolution" at the Society's opening conference April 12-14, 2007, at SUNY New Paltz, NY.

Evolved Self Publishing, also based in New Paltz, publishes books contributing to the multi-disciplinary study of evolution. Both books being presented are fictions. "Me and The Genies" is a light romantic novel intended as an introduction for school board members to the controversy over teaching evolution in the classroom. "Father, in a Far Distant Time I Find You" is a Utopian novel exploring the impact of evolutionary theory on human nature.

Both books represent a new "self-centered" approach to evolution, claims author Shaun Johnston. "Suppose you begin by regarding the human self as a typical product of evolution. What does that tell you about the world? It could lead to an entirely different kind of science. Existing controversies might fade away, and new capabilities in the self emerge based on what we discover."

Additional contributions to this self-centered science already in preparation are "Violent Engine, I Love You," a critical examination of current evolutionary theory, "How the Evolved Self Helps Itself," a self-help book based on new thinking about evolution, and a collection of essays and stories on various aspects of evolution.

Born in London, Shaun Johnston became interested in evolution in his teens and studied biochemistry at University College London. But he found his calling in the world of book publishing in London and then in NYC as a graphic designer and writer. Moving to New Paltz and continuing to be fascinated by evolutionary theory he launched Evolved Self Publishing and the web site www.evolvedself.com.
