RCN Kicks Off 2007 Official Corporate Partnership with D.C. United

RCN Corporation (NASDAQ: RCNI), a leading provider of video, data, and voice services to residential and business customers, announced today that it will be a 2007 Official Sponsor and Corporate Partner of Washington's Major League Soccer team, D.C. United.

As an official sponsor and corporate partner, RCN will also have the right to incorporate the D.C. United team name and logo into all advertising, promotions, broadcast, and print materials. In addition, the August 22 game with the New York Red Bulls will feature RCN Night.

"I find one of the most appealing features of the D.C. United sponsorship package is the opportunities to sponsor youth programs and local soccer clinics and tournaments," said RCN President & CEO Peter D. Aquino. We expect this sponsorship and partnership will bring added benefits to our customers as well as to the communities where we work and live."

For example, RCN is a presenting sponsor of the team's Community Soccer Series, which consists of five youth soccer clinics led by D.C. United players in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Each clinic is open to the public free of charge and can accommodate up to 200 participants.

RCN will also be a Sponsor of D.C. United's Premier Youth Soccer Tournament Series. The 2007 Premier Youth Soccer Tournament Series features the Al Dougherty Memorial Tournament, hosted by the Braddock Road Youth Club, in June, the Independence Cup, hosted by the VISTA Soccer Club, in July, and the Dulles National Soccer Tournament, hosted by Herndon Youth Soccer, in August.

"We are also very pleased to have the opportunity to sponsor two of D.C. United's prestigious D.C. local Hispanic men's soccer tournaments," said RCN Strategic & External Affairs Senior Vice President Richard Ramlall. "The Hispanic community is very important to RCN. We were the first company to offer a Hispanic themed a la carte tier for cable TV programming, called "MiVisión." We also recently introduced "MiTeléfono", a telecom rate plan for discounted calls to Latin America."

The first tournament is Copa DC, which is D.C. United's annual 6v6 Indoor soccer competition for adult Hispanic men. This two-day event is played at the Rockville Sportsplex in Rockville, MD during late October/early November. Expected participation in the tournament is between 24 and 32 teams (maximum 12 players per team).

The other tournament is SUPER COPA DE D.C. UNITED, an 11v11, single elimination outdoor soccer tournament comprised of 16 elite DC-area Hispanic men's soccer teams. The tournament would be held on Saturdays at the RFK Stadium Auxiliary Field.

In addition, RCN will be a Presenting Sponsor of D.C. United's Youth Fan Club (YFC). YFC membership is free, and open to all ages under 16. Kids receive a YFC membership card, premium items at selected games, a weekly e-mail from Bobby Boswell featuring a post game "match breakdown," pertinent team news, and "tips from the pros." Over 16,000 children are currently YFC members.

RCN will also be the Presenting Sponsor of the Fair Play Program. Before each D.C. United home match, five local youth soccer teams will be recognized as the RCN Fair Play Teams of the Game. The teams will be on the field for the National Anthem and pre-game introductions.
