On Sunday, June 24, 2007, hundreds Project Angel Food supporters will be part of the Hollywood Walk to Deliver, a 3.5 mile (5K) walk from Sunset to Vine to raise thousands of dollars for the charity's new, expanded kitchen and increased meal delivery service throughout Los Angeles County. Early Sunday morning, rain or shine, walkers including city officials and celebrity supporters, will begin at 7574 Sunset Boulevard, Project Angel Food's current headquarters, walk through historical Hollywood and end at 922 Vine Street, Project Angel Food's new home, stopping along the way at entertainment rest areas including Hollywood & Highland, and culminating with a festive brunch at 922 Vine Street. Hollywood Walk to Deliver is a momentous fundraising event open to all to join in the efforts to raise money for Project Angel Food's life saving work in the community.
Joining Hollywood Walk To Deliver will be avid supporters, Eric Garcetti, the Los Angeles City Council President and Tom LaBonge, Council Member, 4th District. Both are committed to Project Angel Food's mission and were present when Project Angel Food "broke ground" in a special ceremony to announce their new home on Vine. Johnny Grant, the beloved Honorary Mayor of Hollywood and Chairman of the Walk of Fame Committee, will also be part of the festivities, greeting all the walkers and cheering them on at the start of the Hollywood Walk to Deliver. Morning Disc Jockeys, Irma Blanco and Charlie Tuna from KBIG 104.3 will be walking on Team KBIG to support Project Angel Food.
There will also be celebrity walkers participating in Hollywood Walk to Deliver including Haute Couture Designer, Randolph Duke and recording artist, Apollonia. Celebrity Walker, Apollonia Kotero, who toured with Prince and was his lead in Purple Rain, has been a committed supporter of Project Angel Food for many years as well as her aunt was a client until she passed away. Apollonia shares, "AIDS does not discriminate. My beloved aunt was a mother and grandmother and when she needed a hysterectomy was given a blood transfusion before blood was being screened for HIV/AIDS. During her last days, Project Angel Food fed my aunt--a much needed and appreciated act of kindness and generosity that I will always remember."
Each walker needs to raise $500 and there is a $25 fee to register. You can join any team already fundraising or form another team, and you may walk as a family or as an individual. Hollywood & Highland is the official sponsor of Hollywood Walk to Deliver and will host a fun rest area. Each Walker has a huge opportunity to win some amazing Raffle Prizes. For every $500 raised every walker will receive one raffle ticket. Winners will be announced at Vine Street Brunch with the Grand Prize of a 2-Year Lease on a Toyota Prius. Other amazing raffle prizes to be won include a two night stay at the famous Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel including dinner at Dakota, membership to Crunch Gym, Movie Tickets, and more. After walkers arrive at the Project Angel Food home on Vine, they will be treated to a brunch prepared by celebrity chef , Evan Kleiman , owner and executive chef of Angeli Caffe and KCRW 89.9 host of weekly radio show "Good Food Generous sponsors for Hollywood Walk to Deliver include Hollywood & Highland, Crunch, Fiji Water, Hollywood Roosevelt, Toyota, Hungry Girl, KBIG 104.3, Paramount, and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
Supporters who cannot walk are encouraged to attend the brunch-only portion of the day to show their support. Brunch-only tickets will be on sale for $100. 100% of the proceeds from Hollywood Walk to Deliver go to Project Angel Food. Project Angel Food expects more than 500 people to walk in Hollywood Walk to Deliver. Project Angel Food serves Los Angeles County everyday and is now looking to the community to show their support of this vital work by participating in Hollywood Walk to Deliver.
Project Angel Food, founded in 1989 by Marianne Williamson, has the mission to nourish the body and spirit of men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life threatening illnesses by preparing and delivering free of charge nutritious meals to the homes of people in need throughout Los Angeles County each day. Project Angel Food is, and always has been, the only free daily meal service serving all of Los Angeles County. Project Angel Food has never placed anyone in need on a waiting list. Currently, the agency serves 1,300 a day and the need for meals is increasing by an average of 7% every year. The new expanded kitchen will enable Project Angel Food to always be of service to anyone struggling with a life threatening illness.
