The Police Claim Top Spot: Reunion Tour Is #1 Seller According to TicketsNow Entertainment Index

Wicked remains theater leader; Yankees slide past college basketball.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) April 10, 2007 -- Demand for tickets to see The Police in concert has been overwhelming, which allowed the legendary trio to end Wicked's streak of 18 straight months as the hottest live event, according to the TicketsNow Entertainment Index for March.

By accounting for 4.7% of all tickets sold last month at TicketsNow, the world's largest online marketplace for premium tickets, The Police bested Broadway's smash hit Wicked, which claimed 4.3% of sales. Within the concert category, The Police reunion tour garnered 13.1% of tickets sold. Perennial performer Jimmy Buffett claimed the second spot on the concert index with 7.5% of tickets sold.

In sports ticket sales for March, the New York Yankees inched by NCAA Men's Basketball with 6.7% of tickets sold compared to the Tournament's 6.0%. The Yankees ranked third in overall tickets sold with 3.3%. The rush to purchase Opening Day tickets influenced baseball's domination of the sports category in March as the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, and Boston Red Sox rounded out the top 5 with 5.5%, 4.9%, and 4.7% of sales, respectively.

Although Wicked could not retain the top overall event slot, it remained the #1 seller on the theater index, capturing 28.7% of tickets sold. Trailing the category leader once again was Jersey Boys, which earned 18.4% of theater sales and 2.7% of total tickets sold.
