Stone Mountain, GA (PRWEB) April 12, 2007
The breathtaking Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort, a Stone Mountain hotel surrounded in natural wooded beauty and lush greenery, has received designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System (ACSS). As the only hotel in America certified under Audubon International's Business Program, the Georgia resort joins a renowned, worldwide environmental initiative by eco-aware businesses and Audubon International.
"The Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Business and Corporate Properties gives people an opportunity to do something good for the environment where they live, work and recreate," said Staff Ecologist for Audubon International, Shawn Williams. "The system benefits both people and wildlife and is a great way for businesses and environmental organizations to work together to become better stewards of the land and natural resources."
According to Audubon International, the Audobun Cooperative Sanctuary Programs provide information and guidance to help businesses preserve and enhance wildlife habitat and protect natural resources. Businesses must demonstrate that they are maintaining a high degree of environmental quality in five areas: Environmental Planning, Wildlife Habitat Management, Resource Conservation, Waste Management, and Outreach and Education.
"Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort has shown a strong commitment to its environmental program and should be commended for their efforts to preserve Stone Mountain's natural heritage by providing a sanctuary for wildlife throughout the resort's grounds," Williams said. "By taking action to implement indoor and outdoor conservation projects, the management and staff of the Georgia resort have demonstrated their commitment to sustainable management of their natural resources."
Nestled on 3,200 acres of flourishing forest and sparkling lakes, the 336-room Georgia resort is now part of the ACSS and partners with the group for projects that enhance wildlife habitat and conserve natural resources for the benefit of the local community. Projects include enhancing the property for native wildlife, placing nesting boxes for cavity-nesting birds, conserving water and energy, and recycling waste.
