HaiVision Systems Inc. (Montreal, Canada) announced that the OSCAR H.264 encoder now supports direct-to-QuickTime audio video streaming. The OSCAR is an extremely compact H.264 MPEG-4 AVC encoder designed specifically for video streaming and IPTV applications. Offering CIF, half resolution, and full resolution (SD or D1) encoding or decoding at up to 1.5 Mbps, the OSCAR delivers unmatched price/performance for network video.
The OSCAR supports MPEG-4 AVC H.264 Baseline and enhanced profiles with fully controllable resolution, frame rate, and bit rate from 64 kbps to 1.5 Mbps, thus making it tunable for virtually any bandwidth requirement. Measuring a mere 0.92" x 5.85" x 8.0" (24mm x 149mm x 202mm) and housed in a robust chassis with a locking power supply, HaiVision's OSCAR is ideal for streaming to QuickTime regardless of the environment. The OSCAR uses the RTSP protocol and can deliver multiple streams (10+) directly (multicast or unicast). Should a large number of unicast streams be required, the OSCAR can simply be directed to a QuickTime Streaming Server.
The OSCAR is one of three H.264 MPEG-4 AVC platforms offered by HaiVision. The TASMAN is a high performance H.264 streaming and communication appliance (with the TASMAN Digital supporting SDI input and output), while the hai1000 is HaiVision's flagship multi-channel encoder/decoder system designed for telepresence systems and continuous presence distance education.
Both the OSCAR encoder and decoder are available now. The OSCAR encoder has a list price of US$3,695.
