Needham Bank Launches Essay Contest to Benefit Local Schools

Saturday, at Needham Bank's grand opening in Dedham Square, President Jack McGeorge announced plans for its 115th anniversary celebration which will kick off with an essay contest to benefit local public elementary schools and students. The theme of the contest is, "How would you make a change in our community?"

Needham, MA (PRWEB) April 16, 2007 -- Students in grades 1-5 are invited to submit an essay in words or a picture on how they would make a change in the community. Needham Bank is encouraging each elementary school in Needham, Dedham, Medfield, Wellesley and Westwood to participate in the contest and, as an incentive, each school that takes part will receive a $100 donation toward its library, media center or a program of its choice. Many of the schools have already expressed great interest and decided to incorporate the contest into their writing curriculum, and others are opening it up to the students on a volunteer basis.

Jack McGeorge feels the contest speaks to the bank's tradition of community. "For the past 115 years," McGeorge said, "Needham Bank has demonstrated its deep commitment to the communities it serves by encouraging saving, supporting dreams of home ownership and fostering the entrepreneurial spirit. Our foundation is and always will be the community and its future, which starts with its youth. May the best essay enlighten us all!"

There will be a first, second and third place winner from each grade level for a total of 15 winners, according to Maria Sharpe, Vice President for the bank. Each first place winner will receive a personal computer, and the school they attend will receive a $1,000 donation toward a program of its choice. "We are thrilled with the response we've had so far from the schools," said Sharpe. "School officials are confident that we will receive some wonderfully written essays and we greatly appreciate their support."

The winners of the essay contest will be announced on May 9th at Needham Bank's 115th anniversary celebration.
