HaiVision Systems Inc. (Montreal, Canada) today announces the immediate availability of firmware revision 1.3 for the TASMAN and TASMAN Digital high performance video encoder/decoder systems. This revision is available as a free downloadable firmware upgrade to all TASMAN units installed. New features include "Logical Multicast," Session Announcement Protocol (SAP), and NTSC/PAL auto-detect for both analog and SDI inputs (TASMAN Digital). These features satisfy many advanced requests from HaiVision's diverse client base.

"Logical Multicast" is the ability to send multiple unicast or multicast streams from a single encoder. Typically many WANs do not support multicast, so stream duplication is required in order to target multiple remote sites with unicast. In addition, if a situation requires many local systems or PC viewers on their LAN, a separate multicast stream can be initiated as well. Logical Multicast does not in any way affect the stream quality -- each stream is up to 2 Mbps video bit rate for supreme DVD quality video.

SAP is as well particularly useful for advertising live sessions for electronic program guides associated with set top boxes (such as the Amino AmiNET series) and industry standard MPEG-4 software-based players.

The TASMAN is the leading performance H.264/MPEG-4 AVC encoder/decoder system. The TASMAN supports video bit rates of up to 2 Mbps with less than 200 milliseconds of end-to-end latency. In comparison, most videoconferencing or broadcast encoders exhibit latencies above 500 milliseconds when asked to deliver full resolution video. Furthermore within the TASMAN, audio and video are synchronized to within one frame at all times.

The TASMAN has standard analog I/O (composite and s-video), and the TASMAN Digital supports SDI with embedded AES/EBU audio as well as composite and analog audio for reference. The TASMAN is available as an encoder only (TASMAN Streamer), as a bi-directional encode/decode system (TASMAN Communicator), and as a decoder only with SDI (TASMAN Digital Receiver).
