Bollywood Calling!
The many faces of Bollywod are featured in new television special. Part of a larger series about contemporary India, Bollywood Calling is part of a larger series about India called, "Indique" -- Untold Stories of Contemporary India.
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) April 29, 2007 -- Bollywood, ayurveda and exotic cuisine all muster images of India, but how about wine, high fashion and cutting edge contemporary art? All of this and more are explored in the new television series, Indique -- Untold Stories of Contemporary India. Providing a broad palette of images from the subcontinent, Indique brings viewers a slice of today's India -- one that marries the traditional with the contemporary.
Twin Cities native Simone Ahuja, a second generation Indian-American, who also happens to be a qualified dentist, had noticed change in the place that her parents were raised -- astoundingly different from the place she had visited as a child. At its center she found rapidly evolving economic, social and cultural phenomena. These changes, along with compelling personal stories drew her in -- inspiring her to take a closer look at the country whose exponential growth curve is creating headlines around the globe. A portion of this exploration is found in Indique -- Bollywood Calling! -- a one hour special that will premiere on Twin Cities Public Television on May 5th, 2007 at 10 p.m. Bollywood Calling! is a part of the upcoming travel series, Indique -- Untold Stories of Contemporary India that also features ecotourism in India, luxury travel, quaint markets, ayurvedic spas, India's burgeoning wine industry and more. The series will be distributed nationally in the USA later this year, and will release on DVD in India in August of 2007.
Bollywood Calling! Takes viewers on a behind the scenes look at the lesser-seen side of Bollywood -- India's film industry. Bollywood produces over 800 films per year, more than any other country in the world. This dynamic magazine format program shows viewers the many faces of Bollywood including colorful costumes, dance numbers and overly dramatic scenes -- but also provide a glimpse into some lesser known stories. One segment features India's most popular "playback singer" -- a person who sings behind the scenes in a recording studio for the actor on screen who lip-syncs to their crooning. At 23 years old, playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan has recorded over 2,000 songs. Another segmen features an interview with filmmaker Mira Nair (Namesake, Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair) who gives her perspective on marked changes taking place in contemporary Indian cinema. Still another part of the program explores the lost art of the Bollywood billboard painters. These highly trained artists used to bring the passions of Bollywood to life with their hand painted, larger than life billboards and posters -- only to be replaced in today's age of technology by Photoshop.
