These features make DR/VFI more reliable and powerful--and ensure it provides even better data protection. By automatically monitoring files and data used by enterprise applications in real-time, it determines which files would be most critical to recover after a disaster, hardware failure, or other calamitous event

Today, at the 2007 IBM PartnerWorld Conference, 21st Century Software, a leading provider of intelligent data protection solutions, announced the next major release of their DR/VFI™ recovery management solution.
DR/VFI is an integrated software product that enables the automatic identification, backup and recovery of files vital to mission-critical applications. Based on extensive research and user input, DR/VFI v4.2 has now been optimized and enhanced for expanded functionality, reduced runtime and high performance. The new real-time monitoring and analysis and simulated recovery features in the most recent release of DR/VFI can help companies ensure recoverability as well as address regulatory compliance requirements around data retention.
Real-time monitoring and analysis of file use provides users instant insight into what data is being used by critical applications, and helps ensure the recoverability of that data at any time. Real-time monitoring is critical to achieving an agile, proactive IT environment to support an organization's business objectives.
The new simulated recovery feature of DR/VFI v4.2 allows companies to simulate a recovery exercise at any time before they go off-site to test their recovery plan. This feature allows organizations to identify any exposures in their recovery of individual or any applications under DR/VFI control. In particular, this is critical in environments since interdependencies, migrated data and generational data affect batch applications' ability to go forward.
Paul Eckert, 21st Century Software's lead developer and project manager for DR/VFI, noted the strategic importance of real-time analysis and simulated recovery. "These features make DR/VFI more reliable and powerful--and ensure it provides even better data protection. By automatically monitoring files and data used by enterprise applications in real-time, it determines which files would be most critical to recover after a disaster, hardware failure, or other calamitous event," he said.
DR/VFI 4.2 also successfully integrates with all major vendor backup products, allowing customers to extend the value derived from long-term backup and recovery investments.
Our Application-Driven Data Management (ADDM) approach to retention and recovery helps companies move closer to continuous data protection (CDP), which is fast becoming a critical capability in many organizations. Continuous data protection provides for nearly uninterrupted processing and availability of critical information through creating multiple copies or snapshots of data, instead of only a single daily backup--providing additional flexibility and reliability by creating snapshots at logical or critical times.
