Marotta Introduces Clean Cut Pneumatic Guillotine
Marotta Controls is proud to announce the launch of its new high-pressure pneumatic guillotine system, "Clean Cut". Designed to sever the cable of a device in tow in the event of an emergency, Clean Cut is the first pneumatic cutter to replace pyrotechnics in a military aerospace application. Powerful, reusable and cost-effective, Clean Cut severs bars or cables in milliseconds.
Montville, NJ (PRWEB) May 2, 2007 -pressure pneumatic guillotine system, "Clean Cut". Designed to sever the cable of a device in tow in the event of an emergency, Clean Cut is the first pneumatic cutter to replace pyrotechnics in a military aerospace application. Powerful, reusable and cost-effective, Clean Cut severs bars or cables in milliseconds.
The Clean Cut system consists of a pressure vessel, a solenoid valve and a high-pressure pneumatic cutter. Pneumatically operated in milliseconds, Clean Cut can also be operated using a manual actuator override. Using high-pressure compressed air, Clean Cut eliminates costly pyrotechnics and their associated blast residue, automatically improving safety, maintenance and logistics issues. Designed with high reliability and safety in mind, the blade and anvil are repairable, and the entire system is depot replaceable.
The force of the cutter can exceed 7,200 lbs, and can sever varying cross-sections of bar and cable up to 2" in diameter. Clean Cut has passed environmental tests including high/low temperature, temperature shock and altitude, humidity, random vibration, shock and burst. Clean Cut is suitable for virtually any device in tow, including in-flight refueling hose and drogue lines, helicopter cables and intelligence antennas.
"This is a great achievement for the advancement of high-pressure pneumatic technology, as we transfer the science of pneumatics into competitive, manufacturable products for cutting edge, high-performance applications," said Michael J. Leahan, Vice President and Chief Sales Officer for Marotta. "We are seeing a groundswell of interest and support for our technology as the migration from pyrotechnics to high-pressure pneumatics becomes the norm in military applications. The Clean Cut Guillotine System is yet another application where high-pressure pneumatics supplants pyrotechnics."
Marotta has additional high-pressure pneumatic projects on the Small Diameter Bomb program and a variety of military applications. Recently, The Boeing Company selected Marotta's MPACT high-pressure pneumatic system for weapon ejection on-board its new P8A Poseidon aircraft.
