Brian Behlendorf and Merrill Brown Join BusyTonight.com Advisory Board
Local content aggregator bolstered by four new advisors.
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 4, 2007 -- BusyTonight.com, the largest aggregator of upcoming event listings in the world and the sponsor of a new project to produce community-generated city guides under an open content license, announced today that open source software pioneer Brian Behlendorf and online local content veteran Merrill Brown have agreed to join the company's Advisory Board. Social networking expert Fred Stutzman and Internet marketer and startup veteran John Latona will also be joining the board.
"Brian, Merrill, Fred, and John have all been strong supporters of BusyTonight.com since the beginning," said BusyTonight.com CEO Joshua C. Lerner. "We're delighted to be formalizing these relationships."
BusyTonight.com automatically crawls, indexes, and updates hundreds of thousands of event listings weekly from across the Internet, making them available via feeds, on BusyTonight.com, and on the new wiki-based free city guide project (http://busytonight.com/wiki/).
Behlendorf, a founder of the influential Apache Software Foundation as well as enterprise software company CollabNet, joined BusyTonight.com Advisory Board to support the company's continuing focus on open source principles. "Applications like BusyTonight.com wouldn't be possible without open source software," said Behlendorf. Software packages like Nutch, Lucene, and Tomcat are all products of the open source software movement -- a community-driven effort that has produced the software behind most of the world's Web servers and Internet services.
Brown was the founding Editor-in-Chief of MSNBC, the multichannel news and information media property, and a co-founder of CourtTV. He has decades of experience creating, managing, and promoting local content as a journalist, editor, and visionary manager of media properties, and is currently the founder and principal of MMB Media, LLC, in New York.
Stutzman is the founder of the online identity management application ClaimID (http://claimid.com/), and author of the influential social networking blog "Unit Structures" (http://chimprawk.blogspot.com/). "The challenge of the Internet companies today is how to make sense of vast quantities of information so that people can quickly find what they need," he said. "BusyTonight.com is mining event information from tens of thousands of sources in hundreds of communities, and organizing it so that people can interact socially around it."
Latona is Vice President, Client Services at Nielsen BuzzMetrics in New York. He served as Vice President for eBusiness and Premium Services at XM Satellite Radio from its pre-launch beginnings through 2006, developing a wide variety of Internet promotional programs for the company.
