The Deaf Helping the Deaf: Student Tutoring at its Best

In one of the most innovative educational programs ever created to assist the deaf and hard of hearing community, Lifelinks Tutors Foundation is meeting the demand for on line education at home using videoconferencing technology.

(PRWEB) May 7, 2007 -- In one of the most innovative educational programs ever created to assist the deaf and hard of hearing community, Lifelinks Tutors Foundation is meeting the demand for on line education at home using videoconferencing technology. Lifelinks Tutors spokesperson Nicole states, “The demand has been encouraging from deaf elementary, high schools and even vocational schools, all of which have referred students for homework assistance.”

This is how the Lifelinks Tutoring Service works: a deaf child has a homework problem e.g. in Math. He/she logs onto the Lifelinks Tutors website www.lifelinkstutorsfoundation.com and downloads the list of tutors and the free software. Alternately, he/she has the list from the previous tutoring session so merely clicks on his/her contact list for the available tutors. The tutors are listed next to icons in green (for available) and red (for busy). Connection takes less than 10 seconds. An experienced tutor in the desired subject is ready, willing and able to assist. All of this is offered free, with no advertising or interpreter. Dozens of tutors are available from Sunday through Thursday evenings in subjects ranging from History, English, Literature, Social Studies and Math. All have educational background, experience, are fluent in ASL(American Sign Language) and have been screened.

The demand has been encouraging from deaf elementary, high schools and even vocational schools, all of which have referred students for homework assistance.
The only equipment the deaf student needs is a computer and webcam. Broadband is necessary to assure fluid and clear video quality.
