GPL Player Wins EEK1000 Event the Baltic Open in Tallinn, Estonia

Team GPL celebrate in Estonia as Gary 'MonkeyMgk' Burnley wins over EEK84,000 (US$8000) in Tallinn, with Quad sevens on the final hand.

Tallinn, Estonia (PRWEB) May 10, 2007 -- Five members of Team GPL made the trip to Tallinn in Estonia for the main event of the Baltic Open.

Present were co-founder Colin Hawker and Poker Pro/Celebrity Ed Giddins along with Gary, Steve who won their entry via www.thegreatpokerleague.com and our 2006 Great Poker League annual champion, Aaron 'JonesyFish' Jones.

The team made good progress in the main event with two players making it back for day two, but success came when Gary Burnley took down the rebuy event in style.

As lowest stack with 11 players remaining it looked like the bubble may be looming, however with 6 left Gary was chip leader. The excitement was the final hand however, when Gary's pocket 7's flop quads and his opponent makes a straight on the river.

After the event Gary said, "With 11 remaining I was determined not to simple hang on for a minor pay day. I came here to win an event so I decided to go for it. The final hand was just amazing."

Marketing Director and Co-Founder, Colin Hawker added, "I am overjoyed that a GPL player has had a notable success. Ed made 5th in a side event at the Dom Classics back in February, but for a player to actually win an event outright is marvelous. This is our last live event in 2007, so the timing was pretty good too. We are now looking forward to welcoming new qualifiers in 2008. Any players who make the Top Ten in our annual league will be considered for sponsorship next year."
