ArmchairGM Unveils its List of The 50 Most Influential People in Sports

Wikia's online sports community brings fans together to create the first annual "ArmchairGM Fifty."

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 9, 2007 -- On the heels of last night's Time 100 event in New York City, members of Wikia's popular online sports community, ArmchairGM, have joined forces to compile their own list of movers and shakers.

The ArmchairGM Fifty is the first annual list of the fifty most influential people in the world of sports over the past 12-15 months. Honorees were selected for their influence on the sporting community and/or their individual sport, or for using their sports-related fame to impact the world at large; although this impact did not have to be positive or well-known, just real.

"The Time 100 list features a few people from the sports community and these people are certainly deserving of the honor. Having a large community of passionate sports fans, we thought we'd engage with the ArmchairGM community to come up with our own sports-only list," said Dan Lewis, VP of Business Development at Wikia. "The ArmchairGM Fifty is a list of people making recent history and does not include 'the best of the best,' so you won't see guys like Jesse Owens or Jackie Robinson on our list."

The ArmchairGM Fifty features a variety of sports figures including Stephon Marbury, Bill Simmons, Dikembe Mutombo, Roger Goodell, Pat Summitt, Lance Williams and Mark Fainaru-Wada. Although each person on the list is accompanied by a number, #1 is no more influential than #50.
