CMS Watch Advises Enterprise Content Management Buyers Around the Globe to Consider Local Alternatives
Research finds vibrant regional marketplaces for ECM tools.
Silver Spring, MD (PRWEB) May 10, 2007 -- CMS Watch, a vendor-neutral analyst firm that evaluates content technologies, has found that -- despite consolidation among the biggest Enterprise Content Management (ECM) Suite vendors -- customers outside North America can turn to myriad, healthy local ECM technology suppliers. CMS Watch believes this trend will actually accelerate over the coming years as demand for ECM technology beyond North America continues to expand.
This analysis stems from research CMS Watch conducted for its "ECM Suites Report," released in April, which evaluates 30 vendors from 5 continents.
CMS Watch principal, Alan Pelz-Sharpe, served as lead analyst. "Although large North American ECM vendors dominate headlines, buyers throughout the rest of the world can chose from a variety of local ECM software suppliers who can bring impressive features" said Pelz-Sharpe. "Of course this doesn't mean that international buyers should automatically discount the likes of Oracle, Microsoft, IBM, Open Text, and EMC|Documentum," Pelz-Sharpe added. "But nor should buyers automatically add these giant players to short lists without first investigating local solutions that might offer equally strong technology, better support, and local expertise."
CMS Watch research findings include:
- Regional ECM players like NewGen (India), Vitova (Hong Kong), EVER (France), and Saperion (Germany) have built impressive capabilities localized to their specific markets. For example NewGen has built a strong customer base in Asian Banking and Financial Services, and EVER has found good traction in France, particularly in Government.
- Open source ECM solutions are gaining notable attention in Europe, home to the headquarters of the two most dominant open source ECM projects, Alfresco and Nuxeo.
- Local resellers of the major ECM Suite products continue to adapt those platforms for specific regional needs. However, ongoing turbulence at the top of the ECM marketplace is also disrupting VAR channels beyond North America.
"We would never recommend that you select a vendor just because they're nearby," clarified CMS Watch founder Tony Byrne. Rather, Byrne added, "Buyers should look beyond prominent vendors' slick marketing to investigate both local and international ECM suppliers to find the right match."
The ECM Suites Report closely examines all the major ECM Suites vendors (Alfresco, EMC|Documentum, Hyland, IBM/FileNet, Interwoven, Microsoft, Open Text/Hummingbird, Oracle/Stellent, Vignette, and Xerox.)
But the report also includes shorter profiles of 20 other offerings from around the world, including NewGen (India), Nuxeo (Europe), Objective (Australia), Saperion (Europe), and more.
