Fans of Brooke McEldowney's hit fantasy comic strip, Pibgorn, will be relieved to hear that the series has found a new home at GoComics.com. The full-color strip will run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning May 14.
Pibgorn, the story of a fairy's adventures spreading enchantment in a less than enchanted world, has gained a passionate following since its debut in March 2002. After the strip's long tenure with United Media, McEldowney found a new syndication partner in GoComics.
The creator is looking forward to a smooth transition.
"Ever since Pibgorn's inception," McEldowney said, "it has been a growing, evolving and at times highly experimental entity all its own. Now, moving on, I feel as a parent does when enrolling his child in a new school - all new teachers, new rules, new atmosphere, new playgrounds. I just hope the other kids don't pinch."
Pibgorn's GoComics launch will begin with a re-run of the strips that appeared from March 21 through April 18 on the United Media website. Those strips were the first installments of a story arc that remained unfinished when McEldowney left the syndicate.
The decision to re-run the previously aired strips gives McEldowney a chance to prepare a few weeks' worth of strips in advance. It also ensures that new fans of the strip will have a solid jumping-on point to familiarize themselves with the characters and events that make up Pibgorn's world.
"The stories and characters in Pibgorn are deeper and richer than those typically found in a comic strip," said GoComics CEO Chris Pizey. "It's that rare blend of well-crafted artwork and complex narrative that has made Pibgorn a sensation with fans. We're excited to welcome Pibgorn into the GoComics family, and we're eager to bring new fans into the fold."
