Americas Watchdog to Assist Corporations being Victimized by Global Counterfeiting and Piracy
One of Americas Premier consumer advocacy groups intends to put a large dent in global piracy and counterfeiting. Americas Watchdog's piracy & counterfeiting initiative will focus on targeted investigations in behalf of pharmaceutical companies, software developers, intellectual property, fashion, tobacco & any other product. The investigations are intended on naming the who, what & where's of international counterfeiting or product theft. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that at least ten percent of the pharmaceuticals sold worldwide every year are counterfeit, valued at more than $50 billion. By the year 2010, counterfeit pharmaceuticals could make up as much as 35%+ of the global market. This year global theft or counterfeiting of intellectual property, pharmaceuticals, entertainment DVD's or CD's, fashion, fashion accessories, jewelry, tobacco and other products will cost corporations between $250 billion to $500 billion dollars.
According to Martin, "theft or counterfeiting is a huge global problem that needs to be attacked relentlessly with real penalties to those involved". Those involved include Russian & Chinese organized crime, North Korea, along with an assortment of international criminal syndicates. "International piracy or product counterfeiting is a half trillion dollar dangerous global sewer". Martin said, "Americas Watchdog's approach to this serious epidemic is a gloves off, no holds barred approach". "Traditional law enforcement or complacent government officials will have to be forced to respond, otherwise the problem will simply get worse".
