Motorola Publishes 2006 Corporate Responsibility Report

Company drives social change through its products, community and supply chain programs while minimizing societal impact with product stewardship and climate change actions.

Schaumburg, IL (PRWEB) May 16, 2007 -- The Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) 2006 Corporate Responsibility Report, "Forward Moves," highlights actions the company has taken on social, accountability and sustainability issues around the world.

"Wireless communication is transforming lives, especially for millions of people who live in poverty in the developing world," said Ed Zander, Motorola chairman and chief executive officer. "Motorola is accelerating this positive impact by connecting the unconnected in remote areas and tailoring our products to suit local needs."

The report highlights:

How Motorola is helping people in developing countries gain access to telecommunications and the social benefits such as education and health services they bring -- In 2005 and 2006, the company delivered more than 16 million ultra-low-cost (sub $30) mobile phones to more than 50 developing countries through the GSM Association (GSMA) Emerging Market Handset Program. Motorola worked with Voxiva in conjunction with the GSMA Development Fund and the World Health Organization to develop a mobile-phone-based application for disease management in the developing world.

Motorola's efforts to make products that have less impact on the planet during manufacture, in use and at end-of-life - Over the last five years, Motorola has reduced the average standby power of its mobile phone charges by at least 70 percent. The company has expanded take-back programs to cover countries representing more than 80 percent of its global mobile phone unit sales.

The company's program to improve labor and environmental conditions in the information communication technology industry's supply chain -- Motorola collaborates with its peers to improve standards and has stepped up auditing programs. Read the results of the in-depth audits conducted in 2006.

$30.8 million donated to charities and good causes by Motorola and the Motorola Foundation -- In 2006, the company became a contributing partner of (PRODUCT) RED to help fight HIV/AIDS through mobile phone sales, mobilized employees to community service through its first Global Day of Service and inspired the next generation of inventors by funding initiatives that boost science, technology, engineering and math education.
