Pima Medical Institute in Renton Offers Free Health Screenings During Health Awareness Day

An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure is a proverb the students and staff at Pima Medical Institute, 555 S. Renton Village Place in Renton are taking to heart during their Health Awareness Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 24th.

Renton, WA (PRWEB) May 19, 2007 -- An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure is a proverb the students and staff at Pima Medical Institute, 555 S. Renton Village Place in Renton are taking to heart during their Health Awareness Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 24th.
All the campus' programs will be represented and providing helpful information and services that range from blood pressure checks and prescription safety to pet pedicures.

Medical Administration Assistant students will greet visitors and escort them to the program areas. Medical Assistant students will screen for blood pressure, pulse, respiration and glucose, as well as check blood sugar and facts about cholesterol. Pharmacy Technician students will provide a safety awareness information such as: how everyday products can trigger false positive readings on drug tests, the importance of reading and understanding prescription directions, as well as providing information on how herbs, carbonated beverages and common products such as grapefruit juice might interfere with medications. Dental Assistant students will demonstrate proper tooth brushing techniques and disclose tablets to find plaque, as well as distribute dental health coloring books for the children that attend the event. Veterinary Assistant students will be doing pet pedicures, toe nail trims, animal health checks and ear cleaning. There will be information on nutrition, as well as free refreshments.

"Healthcare is more than treating illness, it's about educating the public about issues so problems can be minimized or avoided altogether," said Robert Panerio, campus director for the career college. "We are very excited about our Health Awareness Day and hope to have a huge turnout."

The Renton career college features 12 class/lab rooms with: computer labs for class and general use; complete Dental Assistant lab with up-to-date equipment; X-ray and darkroom facilities and a complete Veterinary Assistant Lab.
