Construction Begins on 200,000 Pound Dinosaur Sand Sculpture at Imax® 3d Theatre at Broadway at the Beach

Crafting of spectacular sculpture is also "performance art" as Team Sandtastic sculptors labor in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Myrtle Beach, SC (PRWEB) May 19, 2007 -- Professional sand sculptors from Florida began work on a 100-ton sculpture of a dinosaur scene outside the IMAX 3D Theatre at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on May 17. As it takes shape, the sculpture will depict a scene from Dinosaurs 3D: Giants Of Patagonia, one of the IMAX 3D films that will debut at the theater when it opens to the public on May 22. At 200,000 pounds (100-tons), the sculpture will be the same estimated weight as one of the film's featured dinosaurs, the Argentinosaurus, which was the largest animal to ever walk the earth.

The public is invited to come out and watch the sculptors work. The sculpture is under construction from May 17 through May 20.

Award-winning, Florida-based professional sand sculpture company "Team Sandtastic" is crafting the IMAX 3D dino sculpture using 100-tons of sand. Team Sandtastic is an internationally-known sand-sculpting crew that has built sand sculptures all over the world. On May 17, the team plans to complete the first phase of the sculpture process which involves compacting sand into custom-made wooden forms. Once the forms set, the team removes the wood and the carving of the characters begins. (The process used by Team Sandtastic in the construction of its sculptures can be viewed online at www.teamsandtastic.com/process.htm.)

Dinosaurs 3D: Giants of Patagonia, narrated by Hollywood legend Donald Sutherland, is one of five films that will start showing at the new IMAX 3D Theatre on May 22. The other four IMAX 3D films will be Space Station 3D, Sharks 3D, Deep Sea 3D, and Wild Safari 3D.

IMAX 3D Theatre is located at Broadway at the Beach, a 350-acre entertainment complex located in the heart of Myrtle Beach. The shopping, dining and entertainment complex was the winner of the 1997 and 1999 S.C. Governor's Cup Awards.
The state-of-the-art IMAX 3D Theatre building will be an attraction itself, with a new spectacular exterior design and a lobby with displays that will both educate and amaze.
