An 81-Year-Old's Stunning New Novel Describes the Quest for Freedom
The Ecstasy of Freedom: Books One, Two and Three by Leonard J. Hogue chronicles the fictional journey of a young runaway slave.
Union, MS (PRWEB) May 20, 2007 -- The Ecstasy of Freedom: Books One, Two and Three is a series of stirring new novels about a young slave and his family discovering what it means to be free. Author Leonard J. Hogue's remarkable series of books is set against the tumult of the Civil War.
What does it really mean to be free? Is there a price? Those are just some of the questions posed by the author in an epic new series of novels about a young runaway slave named Jasper and the family he leaves behind.
Eighty-one-year-old Hogue has painstakingly researched the Civil War era to give his books a moving authenticity. Each page is infused with details from the author's own life, including how to herd cattle, fish, trap, work a sluice box for gold, shoe horses, operate a sawmill and more. His characters are so alive they seem to breathe on the page, and the story has a page-turning momentum that readers will find irresistible.
Young Jasper discovers the "ecstasy of freedom," boarding a wagon train for San Francisco and beginning to learn the law. But he never forgets his family, and his dreams of being reunited with them propel this fine series of novels to the richly satisfying conclusion. Written with warmth and insight, The Ecstasy of Freedom is historical fiction at its very best.
