The book is a recap of William Donovan, aka William Pete, aka William Peterson, who fought in France during WWI, with actual combat stories and front line fighting under General Pershing.
William was a farmer, a soldier, lover, womanizer and an inventor. The story takes one through his boyhood and his retirement years. The book also is a story of what happened during "The Great Depression" to families and how William abandoned his wife and 11 children by his first wife.
The journey takes one through most of William's work history as an engineer, who once worked with helicopters under Igor Sikorsky, the helicopter pioneer. He also worked at the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yards as a consulting engineer for the U.S. submarine, "The Thresher" which went down in 1963.
There is a summary of all the children's lives from the abandonment and subsequent state taking of the children. Seven of the boys joined the military, five of them in WWII and two of them in the Korean Conflict, two of the men received the Silver Star and Bronze star for bravery.
The story also gives the disposition of the wives, their hardships and their courage and perseverance.
