Dinosaurs Invade Myrtle Beach: 200,000 Pound Dinosaur Sand Sculpture Built Outside IMAX® 3D Theatre

15-Foot Tall Sand Structure Depicts Ferocious Dinosaurs From Blockbuster IMAX 3D Film, Dinosaurs 3D: Giants Of Patagonia

Myrtle Beach, SC (PRWEB) May 22, 2007 -- A 15-foot tall, 200,000 pound sand sculpture of ferocious dinosaurs has been built outside the IMAX 3D Theatre at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The one-of-a-kind sand sculpture depicts a scene from the IMAX 3D blockbuster film Dinosaurs 3D: Giants Of Patagonia, one of five IMAX 3D films that will debut at the theater on May 22.

At 200,000 pounds (100-tons), the sculpture is the same estimated weight as one of the film's featured dinosaurs, the Argentinosaurus, which was the largest animal to ever walk the earth.

"This amazing sculpture -- like our IMAX 3D films -- is unique and memorable, so it is the perfect way to celebrate our grand opening in the Myrtle Beach market," said Murray Mold, national marketing director of Destination Cinema Inc., operator of the IMAX 3D Theatre. "It has drawn crowds of observers while under construction and built up quite a bit of excitement about the films we will be showing for the public beginning May 22. This is what IMAX 3D is all about -- an extraordinary, immersive entertainment experience that is unlike anything else on the Grand Strand."

The IMAX 3D dino sculpture was built by the award-winning, Florida-based professional sand sculpture company, "Team Sandtastic," an internationally-known sand-sculpting crew that has built sand sculptures all over the world.

IMAX 3D Theatre is located at Broadway at the Beach, a 350-acre entertainment complex located in the heart of Myrtle Beach. The shopping, dining and entertainment complex was the winner of the 1997 and 1999 S.C. Governor's Cup Awards. The state-of-the-art IMAX 3D Theatre building has already become an attraction itself, with a new spectacular exterior design and a lobby with displays that both educate and amaze.

The Theatre will open May 22 with the following films:

Dinosaurs 3D: Giants of Patagonia, narrated by Hollywood legend Donald Sutherland;

Space Station 3D, the first-ever IMAX 3D space film, narrated by action-adventure star Tom Cruise;

Sharks 3D, a breathtaking new film experience presented by world-famous ocean explorer Jean-Michel Cousteau;

Deep Sea 3D, a look at sea life in the deepest depths of the ocean, narrated by award-winning actors Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet; and

Wild Safari 3D, the first-ever 3D wildlife film experience.
