Ohio's Unsung Heroes

Author James B. Cash to Speak at the Andrews House in Delaware, OH on Ohio's Unsung Heroes - personal life of eight U.S. presidents.

Columbus, OH (PRWEB) May 27, 2007 -- Lecturer and author James B. Cash proudly joins forces with the city of Delaware's Andrews House to discuss the topic of the personal lives of Ohio Presidents and their wives on June 1, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by Jim A. Cash Insurance of Lewis Center, OH and is free and open to the public.

In the half century between Reconstruction and the Roaring Twenties, seven of the ten men in the White House were Ohioans, presiding over the industrialization of America and its emergence as a world power. James Cash's portrait of these men appraises from the vantage point of our own time and in this strange sepia land so distant from us, they begin to emerge from their formal portraits as men of flesh and blood while Ohio becomes a powerful country, a metaphor for America itself. This presentation will illuminate this distant landscape in a new light.

  • One was born of an elite Virginia family that proved to be a tough and resourceful fighter against the British and Indians in the Old Northwest.
  • Four of the presidents were followers or direct associates of Abraham Lincoln.
  • Five of them saw front-line action in the Civil War to maintain the union and abolish slavery.
  • All advocated farseeing policies on equal rights and education.

Lecturer and author James B. Cash has appeared on a number of NPR and private radio and TV stations including nationwide on C-SPAN2's weekend program, Booknotes, and Comedy Central's The Daily Show. He was a member of the Presidents and Politics Advisory Subcommittee of the Ohio Bicentennial Commission and is a speaker for the Ohio Humanities Council Speakers Bureau.
