East Hartford, Conn. (PRWEB) May 27, 2007 -- Diane Michelle Piccolo of Suffield, Connecticut, was today crowned the winner of the Mrs. Connecticut United States Pageant 2007, held at the Sheraton Hotel in East Hartford.

Piccolo will now compete for the title of Mrs. U.S.A. in the national pageant in July, which will be televised from the Silverton Hotel & Lodge in Las Vegas. All 50 states will be represented in the pageant, along with Guam, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia.

"I am so honored to be representing the state of Connecticut," Piccolo said. "It is the most beautiful state in the country." A native of Connecticut, Piccolo grew up in East Hartford and spent summers sailing in Mystic.

Piccolo's platform is autism awareness. "My 11-year-old son Nico is autistic and it is my wish to go visit schools throughout Connecticut to educate students, faculty and parents about autism and the importance of integrating special needs students into the mainstream classroom," she said.

In addition to Nico, Piccolo's family includes Taylor, age 13, Danielle, age 12, and husband Guy, to whom she has been married for 15 years. Her hobbies include competitive ballroom dancing, aerobics and gardening.
