Celebrity Hairstylist 'Pays it Forward'
Hairstylist to the stars, Hasblady Guzman, opens her heart and closes her doors to donate her time and talent to residents of Los Angeles' Dream Center.
Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) May 27, 2007 -- Hasblady Guzman, owner and operator of Bokaos Aveda on Pasadena's trendy Colorado Boulevard, shut down her salon to donate - along with her team of 15 stylists - professional beauty makeovers to 30 abused women.
The Dream Center, located in downtown Los Angeles, takes in women from all walks of life - including the homeless, former drug addicts, former prostitutes and victims of domestic violence. "I said 'this is no way to live'; it was hopeless," said one the recipients of the once-in-a-lifetime experience, who had suffered a particularly brutal attack which had all but taken her life. But thanks to the Dream Center, the young woman is now in a safe environment, has taken her high-school equivalency degree, is off drugs and is and on her way to becoming a police officer.
The group of grateful women were treated to an array of such beauty and spa services as haircuts, coloring, facials, make-up, stress relief and hand treatments. "It means so much to look on the outside how you feel on the inside," said one of the women. "It changes your whole self esteem."
The event was sponsored by Guzman and was part of a new "pay it forward" program taking place inside the Dream Center. "After doing this," said Hasblady, "I wonder why I don't do it more often."
Guzman - who has styled such celebrities as Eva LaRue, Andy Dick and Paris Hilton - takes tremendous pride in her profession and helping others.
