Big Five Announces Collaboration with World-Renowned Sustainable Tourism Expert

Big Five Tours & Expeditions is pleased to announce that Costas Christ, an internationally recognized expert on sustainable tourism development and ecotourism, will support the Big Five team as "Ambassador at Large."

Stuart, FL (PRWEB) May 29, 2007 -- Big Five Tours & Expeditions is pleased to announce that Costas Christ, an internationally recognized expert on sustainable tourism development and ecotourism, will support the Big Five team as "Ambassador at Large."

Costas Christ serves as Chairman of Judges for the World Travel and Tourism Council's Tourism for Tomorrow Awards, which promote global tourism best practices. He is a contributing editor and columnist for National Geographic Adventure magazine, and has written for the New York Times, International Herald Tribune and Sunday Times of London. He is the lead author of Tourism and Biodiversity: Mapping Tourism's Global Footprint and a contributing author in Wilderness: Earth's Last Wild Places. Costas appears often on television and radio, and is a frequent speaker at international conferences, including the Global Travel and Tourism Summit.

Big Five's commitment to sustainable global tourism and conservation harks back to the company's beginnings more than three decades ago in Nairobi, Kenya. Its founding principles were based on providing guests with personal encounters with Africa, its wildlife and its diverse cultures while contributing positively to conservation and local communities. Today, Big Five offers trips throughout the world guided by those same principles.

Costas' collaboration with Big Five signifies a deepening of the company's desire to expand its efforts to support the conservation of cultural and natural heritage through sustainable tourism. He will assist Big Five on its initiative to launch the Spirit of Big Five Foundation, a non-profit entity. In addition, Costas will serve as a guest expert on three select, exclusively designed Big Five trips in 2008 to the Galapagos Islands, Tanzania, and Vietnam and Cambodia.

Over the years, Costas Christ's travels have taken him to more than 100 countries across five continents, including expeditions to some of the world's most remote wilderness areas and archeological sites. "I first heard about Big Five Tours & Expeditions while living in Kenya," says Costas. "One of the things that caught my attention, even then, was their long-term interest in environmentally sensitive travel. After meeting the Sanghrajka family, I found that this was more than just business to them. It is a passion, and one I share."

"Costas' association with Big Five marks a significant chapter in our continued dedication to being in the forefront of sustainable tourism," states Mahen Sanghrajka, President of Big Five.

Big Five Tours & Expeditions, voted Travel+Leisure's "2007 World's Best Value" for Tour Operator & Safari Outfitter, is a premium soft adventure tour operator offering luxury guided travel to Africa, Asia & South Pacific, Orient, South & Central America, Arctic & Antarctica.
